Make-up Looks Inspired By Winter Beverages

We’re loving make-up looks inspired by our favourite winter beverages. Pair one of these pigments with your next winter look and embrace the richness of sultry colour to add a touch of warmth.

Winter may feel long and as if summer will never come, but no season is without perks or favourites. Think cosy layers, mesmerising fires, and warm beverages to get us through the bone-biting cold, WFH or office chills and the unavoidable reality of having to go out into the world to run errands and socialise. Thankfully, global winter beauty trends are bringing a fire of their own and it’s certainly no surprise, because we, too, love a smoky cocoa eye and demure statement cheek.

Hot Chocolate

That satisfying mug of creamy hot chocolate or cocoa can be used as inspiration for the look here. It needs to be grounded with a flawless preparation (primer, foundation or contouring) and deep, well-blended pigments. With powder products, it’s important to start by making sure your skin is hydrated and finish with a good setting spray to hold the intensity and lock your products in place.
Tip: Think strong brows, velvety nail colours, multi-tonal smoky shadows and deeper tones of blush draped along your cheekbones like on page 18.

Espresso

If, like us, you enjoy a strong roast to start your day, why not take inspiration from your morning brew with a sultry, dark pigment on your face or nails. The key is to build the colour bit by bit to avoid a cakey texture and a huge mess. If a full face of dramatic colour is too far out of your comfort zone, opt for one feature and go bold. For more dimension, try topping off your dark shadow with a glittery layer or a glossy, complementary gel or liquid pigment.
Tip: Dark pigments are a nightmare when they smudge or fall on to your face, so start with your eye make-up first, then move on to the rest of your face when you’re sure the spill risk is averted.

Spicy Chai Latte

Chai latte is the kind of energy we love during cooler months. Spicy tones and rich layers mimic the combination of spices in your favourite chai (classic, golden or saffron), and lend itself to a rich, autumnal palette fit for an optimistic play in moody weather. These tones and textures photograph incredibly well in winter light and work as well for office-bound work days and weekday date nights, as it does for weekends sipping and chatting away with your family and friends.
Tip:  Mix textures and slightly haphazardly blend a few different colours for a look that sets itself apart from a predictable play on colour.

Mulled wine

Mulled wine and nightcaps by a fire or with your favourite novel inspire richly pigmented lips and nails, flushed blush and flawless skin for those days when you’re layered up and probably daydreaming about a nap. Don’t be limited by reds and oranges, or even by just one of them. Play with a rich lip or eyeshadow in the red family, and pair it with peach or orange cheek for a look fit for a cold day
of glamour. Experiment with purples, burgundies, rusty browns and some shimmer and glossy textures too.
Tip: Mix pigments for unique shades and invest in a few small glass jars (or reuse some empty packaging) to save excess pigment for touch
up or a future application.
