Experts share the latest on the trendy yellow in decor

We explore the latest trending shades in décor and design for the upcoming seasons.

Beyond beige and the safety of neutrals, colour is making its way back into our homes softly, confidently and with purpose. Today’s design mood leans less towards perfection and more towards personality with paint, decor and tactile finishes used to express mood and meaning. Whether it’s through a captivating wall tone, a throw or an accent chair, colour is a key tool for storytelling within our most treasured spaces — adding warmth, optimism and individuality to every corner.

The yellow effect

From fashion to interiors, last year we witnessed Butter Yellow in all aspects of design. The success of this hue lies not just in its elegant appearance but in the mood it sets: soft yet vibrant, cheerful yet calm, nostalgic yet timeless. This trendy shade taps into a collective craving for comfort and optimism felt through its sense of vintage charm. A shade that is reminiscent of retro kitchens, sunlit linens and childhood memories that foster a visual calm in the craze of a post-pandemic world.

In addition to this buttery-hued fan favourite, is a range of soft yellow shades and organic tones that are due to stick around for the upcoming season. Shades such as Sun Y4-A1-4 and Julia Y3-A2-2 from Plascon’s 2026 Butter + Sky colour forecast reflect a growing preference for sun-kissed yellows softened by time and light. Creamy soft yellows like Plascon Acacia 86 offer a more gentle and wearable wash of colour without demanding too much attention. Sunshine hues like Plascon Crazy Daisy Y4-A1-1 exude pure energy, enhancing light in a room. These nature-inspired tones (neither sharp nor neon) carry a gentle warmth that resonates deeply through their emotional richness and design versatility. Catered towards the general desire for comfort and optimism that continues to shape aesthetic choices in design, these shades are sure to remain favourites well into the year.
