Just because colder months have settled in doesn’t mean it’s time to put away your makeup collection for warmer days. Autumn and Winter cosmetic trends happen to be favourites all year round because they’re so versatile.
With colder air and wet, rainy weather, comes an internal need for warmth. Deep reddish shades offer the heat we need for all our winter ensembles, whilst darker aesthetics add a bit of mystery and dusky chic.
Dramatic, dark hues are always trending during colder seasons. Deep lip shades such as blackcurrant and berry are the most striking of them all, whilst dark browns and taupes are great for subtle drama. Smokey eyes and bold brows should also add to all the wintery drama. Black, graphic liner also creates that sultry, feline aesthetic that everyone loves. However, if you’re into the artsy look and feel then go ahead and experiment with avant-garde styles.
If you’re not about that ‘dark and mysterious’ life, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that fluorescent colours and glittery accents have also gone up in the rankings this season. Metallic blue liners and green and pink eyeshadows are currently being glorified by professional makeup artists and designers. Individuality is key so you’re safe to play around with some vibrant shades, but don’t over do it!
This year the concept of ‘illumination’ has been a standout feature on runways and in beauty trends. Cold air may lead to dry skin. This is why moisturisers are all the rage right now. Fresh, healthy skin is so on-trend and the fashion world favours the hyper-real, radiant look. Iridescent powders and gorgeous highlighters are perfect for illuminating those cheekbones and cupid’s bows. Glossy lips are also quite lovely additions to winter ensembles. Fresh, dewy skin with a slight peachy glow is also quite complimentary to most skin tones.
We’ve put together a selection of standout winter makeup looks that could persuade you to try out some of these trends.
