Spend Saturday at the Old Biscuit Mill
Every Saturday, the Old Biscuit Mill is abuzz with activity, thanks, in part, to the Neighbourgoods Market (neighbourgoodsmarket.co.za), where numerous vendors set up stalls, preparing and selling a plethora of wholesome treats from steaming hot paella to tantalising ice cream. Design stalls also open up for the fashion-conscious, as do the Biscuit Mill’s numerous tenant stores and eateries. Live music can
also be enjoyed.

JOBURG

Go way back in time
Maropeng Visitor Centre, Krugersdorp
The trip to Maropeng, part of the Cradle of Humankind, will take you an hour out of Joburg and millennia into the past. Learn about many subjects, including the earth’s formation, human evolution, palaeontology and environmental sustainability, in a fascinating series of exhibits.

James Hall Museum of Transport
From a vintage Ford to a classic London Bus, the James Hall Museum features
a diverse selection of historical vehicles. It’s the largest museum of land transport in South Africa, and is sure to fascinate youngsters while allowing visitors from older generations to reminisce about their days on the road. Plus, the outdoor area is great for a picnic.

DURBAN

Feel like a giant at Minitown
Minitown’s been a popular seaside attraction in Durban for almost 50 years. It’s a miniature replica of the city, which means two things for the kiddies: They’ll become a bit more familiar with a local metropolis, and they will enjoy feeling a lot taller than usual. Minitown is open seven days a week, and is a great place for a party or a braai.
