Global Citizen, the international advocacy organisation, announced that Trevor Noah will be the host of the Global Citizen Festival in South Africa along with American stand-up comedian, Dave Chappelle and South African TV presenter and actress, Nomzamo Mbatha. The free-ticketed music festival, called the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100, is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 2nd and includes both international and local celebrities as co-hosts – celebs like: Naomi Campbell, Sir Bob Geldof, Gayle King, Bonang Matheba, Tyler Perry, and Forest Whitaker.

Trevor Noah, who currently lives in New York City, is seen as one of the most powerful broadcasters according to Global Citizen founder and CEO, Hugh Evans. “Trevor is one of the most powerful broadcasters of our century— his life, comedy and activism are a symbol of Mandela’s enduring vision and pursuit of equality for all,” Evans said. “We are extremely grateful for his continued support of the Global Citizen movement. We could not be more excited to have him come home with us to Johannesburg for the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100.”

Trevor is just as ecstatic to be a part of such a good cause. “It is an honour to be a part of the Global Citizen Festival event celebrating the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela. I am where I am today living as a free South African because of much of what he did and so I’m beyond excited to be teaming up with so many others to pay tribute to the man in his home country.”

The festival is headlined by Beyoncé & Jay-Z, Cassper Nyovest, D’banj, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Femi Kuti, Pharrell Williams & Chris Martin, Sho Madjozi, Kacey Musgraves, Tiwa Savage, Usher and Wizkid. Oprah Winfrey will also be in attendance to present a keynote speech regarding Mandela and his legacy.
