2021 marked the year of optimism for many, facing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, Pantone chose vibrant yellow and earthy grey as its Colours of The Year – emphasising how after every storm of grey clouds is the sunshine. For 2022 however, the biggest colour trend predicted is – drum roll – pale green!

The pale green colour choice has quickly been gaining traction from homeowners for its complementing other colours and how it changes easily with the seasons – just like the greens in nature. There are yellow-greens, blue-greens, grey-greens, warm greens, cool greens, light greens and dark greens… the list continues. With green being so versatile, there are a few ways to incorporate it into decorating.

Green decor items and accessories

Like accents, decorations and home-accessories in a pale green shade will enhance the already-existing interior.  Pairing wooden items with pops of green like vases, decorative plates, and candles enhance a cozy and relaxed atmosphere in rooms. Incorporating phthalo, feldgrau or other darker greens into items like coffee or side tables, shelves or dish sets, or lighter shades of fern green, reseda and olive greens into items like hand towels and lamps will also accentuate white, grey and woody interior. The colour you use for your accents and decor depends on the size, and value (light or dark) of the existing interior.

Bedroom, bathroom and kitchen

The bedroom, bathroom and kitchen are our main places of solitude. For a relaxed bedroom, create a feature wall with a mural of greenery, or similar use leafy-wallpaper. To soften a white interior, use throw pillows or blankets in a variety of pale-green hues for a layered earthy feel. Pair a light-wood bed frame, dresser and side table with pale-green lamps and decor items, matching a mint green carpet to the wood. For the bathroom and kitchen, phthalo green cabinets painted with white floral patterns, or paired with marble tps will enhance a sophisticated and relaxed feeling. Wooden eating tables with green-washed chairs, marble countertops with wooden utensil-holders, wooden fruit bowls complement the green additions to the kitchen. Lastly, olive feature walls paired with blush pink, and moss green coloured cabinets paired with aquamarine walls are a few combinations for painting.

Painting accents

Painting all your walls the same shade of green may not be ideal, especially if you’re using a dark green in a small space. Seaglass green, moss green and mint are subtle but effective colour choices for adding green accents to home items. Painting a mirror frame or window pane with a seafoam green, compliments a grey, white or beige wall. Creating a green accent wall using moss or asparagus green for lighter walls, or a darker phthalo green to a wall with a fireplace adds a depth to the room it accompanies. Stenciling geometric patterns using gold and green accents onto wooden chairs or feature walls, or painting a staircase green with the tops remaining wood, or white will bring a pop of colour.
