According to our trustworthy source Urban Dictionary, the ‘soft life’ is: ‘Where you make decisions that leave you feeling stress-free and vibrating higher.’ Okay, what does that mean? Simply put, the idiom ‘soft life’ means to live a life of comfort with no unpleasantness. It’s about focusing on a self-care attitude, especially given the effects of the pandemic.
Soft Things Still Hurt
One common theme in the ‘soft life’ is buying luxury products, and living lavishly – which is going to be pretty expensive. While the concept may be good, the way people have gone about it isn’t always the best, especially if you’re trying to do it beyond your means. But that does not mean you can’t also have a soft life! If anything, it has motivated a lot of online fans, especially young women, to go out and pursue the life of their dreams. This is because living the ‘soft life’ is more about living the way that will make you feel like you’re making the most of it. However, that still comes with working smart and having goals.
Soft Life for Strong Women
Not that being called a ‘strong woman’ isn’t a compliment, but more women are realising that they shouldn’t have to be put through rings of fire to actually be considered ‘strong’. Wanting to live a life filled with self-care and happiness doesn’t always mean sipping daiquiris on a yacht in Dubai; it also means that you shouldn’t have to suffer just to prove that you deserve to live a good life. It’s not about showing how much you can handle, but rather trying to live a better, more fulfilled life. So we’ll go to therapy, work smart, make some investments, travel the world, love and be loved.
Soft Celebs
Anele Mdoda – The actress, radio host and mistress of laughter is always posting inspirational quotes on Instagram; that is when she’s not showing us how much she loves her family, and is making moves in her career and social life. Anele has risen, and continues to encourage women to see their own worth beyond others’ eyes.
Ayanda Borotho – The epitome of the term ‘trailblazer’ has to be Ayanda Borotho. A humanitarian, entrepreneur, author, actress and speaker, she continues to prove how working towards your goals pays off in the end. Instead of focusing on how much she has suffered, Ayanda focuses on how much she CAN do in the moment.
Somizi – The eccentric media personality, TV presenter, actor and choreographer is sure to be a household name by now. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from Somizi, it’s to be as ‘you’ as you can be – no matter how outlandish that may be. He’s the perfect example of how to be happy in your own skin by doing what you love.
Ntando Duma Mthombeni – ‘International award-winning actress’ says it all. When she bought a new Mercedes-Benz earlier this year, she took to Instagram to express just how happy and proud she was. She’s shown us that by not giving up and sticking to your guns, you can make your life your own.
Makhadzi – Starting in 2012, Makhadzi has become one of the most successful young African musicians of the 21st century. She recently bought her own crib, after building homes for her parents and grandmother. The girl is getting music award nominations, mass recognition, travelling and making a name for herself in the industry.
Some celebrities might make the ‘soft life’ seem like a pipe dream, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, we can enjoy the small things in life without breaking the bank. So, live your ‘soft life’ the way you feel and just be happy!
