SA Netball Captain Bongi Msomi Becomes Spur’s First Netball Ambassador

Fresh off the World Cup court, Protea netball captain Bongi Msomi has wasted no time getting back to her other passion: supporting school netball teams. She’s partnered with Spur, as their first ever brand ambassador, to cheer on u17 netball teams as they progress through the SA Schools Netball League.

Bongi started playing netball by chance. She was 16 years old when she was called onto the court to fill in for a friend. With no experience or kit, she wowed the coach and was asked to come to practice the next week. Fast forward six years and she debuts as a player for the Protea netball squad. In 2016, she became captain and has led her team to new highs ever since.

She founded the Bongi Msomi Legacy Project in her hometown, Hammersdale in Kwa-Zulu Natal, to support young netball players and teams. Not only does the foundation provide them with kit, transport and food but also knowledge and opportunities.

That’s where the partnership with Spur comes in. Spur has committed to sponsoring u17 school netball in South Africa, an important age for young netball players who want to begin their professional careers.

“I was thrilled to hear of Spur’s sponsorship of schools netball that showcases their commitment to encourage children and families to lead happy and active lifestyles,” Msomi said. “The opportunity for us to now work together to continue promoting the sport is an extremely exciting prospect.”
