What to wear as a wedding guest (that’s not a dress)

Not a dress person? No problem. From tailored suits to statement skirts, here are four stylish wedding guest outfit ideas that go beyond the expected – perfect for cooler weather and standing out in comfort.

1. The tailored suit

A sharp suit is incredibly versatile. Opting for a rich fabric like velvet, satin or a wool-blend for cooler weather, and play with jewel tones – think emerald, burgundy or deep navy – for a luxe look that won’t compete with the bride. In summer, lighter fabric such as linen or cotton blends in ice-cream hues are on point. Go bare beneath your suit if your dare (and it isn’t too revealing), or pair with a silky blouse, heeled boots or strappy sandals. Finish with bold earrings or a statement clutch. For a modern spin, try a slightly oversized blazer with wide-leg trousers.

2. The jumpsuit

A jumpsuit is a one-and-done wonder that feels dressy without being fussy. Look for details like wide legs, wrap fronts, strapless, pleats or cut-outs to elevate your silhouette. Long sleeves or high necklines make them winter-appropriate, especially in heavier fabrics like crepe or satin. A belted waist adds definition, while metallic accessories can dress it up for an evening reception. Add a cropped faux fur jacket for warmth and drama.

3. Stylish separates

Coordinated sets are a smart alternative to the standard dress. Think matching wide-leg pants and a structured top such as a halter neck, or a satin blouse tucked into a statement trouser. Textured fabrics like brocade or jacquard bring a festive edge, while layering allows for flexibility – ideal for transitioning from a chilly ceremony to a warmer dance floor. Mix and match to showcase your personal style.

4. Statement skirt

Don’t underestimate the power of a standout skirt. A voluminous tulle number, sequinned mini or satin pleated maxi can easily be the centrepiece of your look. Pair it with a strappy top, a fitted knit, silky cami under a blazer, or even a crisp button-down shirt for a cool contrast. Add tights and heeled ankle boots for warmth, and you’re reception-ready.

@torimooore skirts are a versatile and affordable option to have in your closet if you don’t want to wear a dress to a wedding! skirts are also more likely to be found at thrift stores or on second hand sites. just follow the same length, cut, color, and fabric guidelines! #dresscode #weddingdresscode #weddingguest #weddingguestdress ♬ original sound – TORI | dress code girlie
