Covering up those blemishes, redness, or hyperpigmentation is easier than you think!
It’s the year 2023, and how times have changed! Guys want to look their best when they attend meetings, special occasions and even just out and about. Getting a little cosmetic help is undoubtedly becoming more acceptable, and make-up for men has come a long way.
PREP YOUR SKIN
The first thing to emphasise is a good natural foundation – that is, keeping your skin nourished and hydrated. No matter your skin type, a daily routine of moisturising after thoroughly washing your skin is essential.
If you’ve got dry skin, opt for a rich, cream-based moisturiser. If you have oily or combination skin, a gel, serum or ‘mattifying’ formulation is best to avoid looking too shiny.
CONCEALER
Great for quick cover-ups, always choose concealer that is as close to your natural skin tone as possible. Concealer can be easily applied with your ring finger; the warmth from your finger will help blend the product into your skin nicely.
A drop of concealer can go a long way, so start with less and build up as you go. Remember, the purpose isn’t to hide your features but rather to enhance them – by subtly hiding blemishes and pimples, or brightening those dark circles under your eyes, you will look healthier and ‘fresher’.
TINTED MOISTURISER
You don’t want to look like you’re wearing make-up, but still want to tone down redness or even out your skin tone? A tinted moisturiser, also called BB or CC cream, is the perfect solution. It’s lightweight and balances out skin tone for a smooth, perfect finish.
Choosing a water-based tinted moisturiser is your best bet (especially if you have oily or combination skin) because it feels like nothing is on your face. Plus, most usually have added skincare benefits.
This barely-there formula helps solve one of the biggest issues people have when they’re first getting into complexion products, which is that uncomfortable feeling of having full coverage foundation on the face.
EYE ON THE PRIZE
A good set of eyebrows is all you need to frame your face and look well-groomed. You can have your brows waxed or threaded at a salon, or simply tweeze them yourself to keep them neat. A clear or tinted brow gel will also keep those hairs in place! Simply brush onto your brows in an upward motion.
To frame or ‘open up’ your eyes and look more energised, give your lashes a lick of mascara. Whether you choose a clear or black or brown mascara, do choose a waterproof formula to avoid any smudging throughout the day.
PUCKER UP
More essential skincare than cosmetic, a lip balm (or just good old Vaseline) will keep your lips from looking dry and crusty – especially if you do loads of talking in your line of work.
Chapped lips are not attractive, and when winter comes around lips tend to get even drier. Using lip balm will go a long way in keeping them smooth and preventing early signs of ageing.
DON’T FORGET!
SPF is you’re biggest anti-ageing weapon. Always apply sunscreen after your moisturiser – whether you’re wearing make-up or not. An SPF20 or above is best in our sunny climate.
