Sure-fire guide to brows

Not ready to make the commitment to permanent make-up? Getting your brow game on doesn’t have to be costly or time-consuming. Once you have the shape right (easy if you follow a few sure-fire guidelines), it’s amazing what well-arched brow can do for your face.

A quick fix

If you simply want to get a shape and get it fast, use a pencil with a thick tip to shade in your existing eyebrow shape. This works best when you already have a good eyebrow shape and ample thickness. It’s a quick fix to fill in any gaps and emphasise the shape. This is not advisable for thin eyebrows as it can look drawn on and unnatural.

Natural Volume
If you aren’t blessed with Brooke Shields circa 1980s brows, it’s best to use a small thin-tipped pencil to define what’s there and add volume naturally. Using upward strokes, mimic the individual eyebrow hairs.

Barely There
If you are seriously lacking in the brow department and need all the help you can get, layering products will be your best bet. Start by using a thin pencil to draw in and define the shape. Then go over with a brow shadow using an angled brush. The powder will cling to the wax of the pencil, helping it to stick and last longer.

Tattooed Brows
Get a wash-off tattoo effect by using a tattoo micro pen. It’s easy to draw in fine hairs with precision and create a full shape, but unlike a real tattoo it’s just as easy to remove.
