4 ways to sneak in a workout

We all know the drill. You have the best intentions of a good workout but you can never find the right time amidst your busy schedule. Here are four ways to up your fitness even if your day seems chaotic.

Wake up 30 minutes earlier

If you are a workout-after-work type of girl, now might be the time to do your sweat sessions in the morning. You might need time to adjust, but working out in the morning will allow you to exercise before your day goes off the rails. You might not attend that fitness class you love, but a quick run around the block or ten minutes on the treadmill or elliptical is better than scrolling through Instagram before getting out of bed.

Make your commute a sweat session

If you travel to work, you know how time and energy consuming it is. Depending on how far you live from work, up your fitness by running or cycling to work. Live too far from work? Get off the bus or train a couple of stops sooner and take a brisk walk or run for the rest of the route. If you’re driving in, park your car further from the entrance to extend your walk to the office.

Lunch-break workouts

Ditch lunch at your desk, put on your running shoes and go for a brisk walk during your lunch. If heading outdoors will be too time-consuming, try a desk workout. Do seated stretches, a few sets of lunges and squats, replace your office chair with an exercise ball (Hello, ab workout!) or do a few sprints using the stairs. Not only will your body benefit, but you’ll be more productive after.

Multitask

Working out doesn’t mean you have to pause your work tasks. While you’re in downward dog, on the exercise bike or getting in your steps, whip out your cell phone and blast through your emails, prioritize your to-do list or reply to all your piled-up WhatsApp messages (a job in itself). You’ll get a workout in and make your day more manageable by clearing those gruelling tasks.
