By now you’ve probably seen posts all over social media saying ‘Manifesting this life’, or ‘Manifesting this into existence’, often accompanied by an image of money, love, or a luxury vacation. It’s not a new buzz phrase and it certainly isn’t code for anything sinister. In fact, it’s a wellness trend that’s about speaking positivity into your life. And it’s not even a new idea.
Speak On It
Manifesting is simply the Law of Attraction rebranded. The idea behind it all is that you attract what you put out into the world. This can come in many forms, whether it’s having a positive thought, writing in a journal or speaking it out into the world (or on Twitter). It ties in with other catchy ideas we’ve seen on the web as well, such as ‘your vibe attracts your tribe’ and the ideal wish-making time 11:11.
Own It
Seeing that most of social media is about inspiring and aspiring, it’s fitting that manifestation found its way there. We often share only the most beautiful and incredible parts of ourselves and our lives online, so it’s no wonder we’re aiming to attract the best for ourselves there. But manifestation has far deeper routes in the New Age – with more of a focus being placed on mental health and well-being, this trend seeks to encourage us to focus on our goals and work towards them. It’s more than just thoughts without action; manifesting allows us to set our mind on a target (such as a new job or home in the future) and then actively start planning for that goal. All we see online is a simple Tweet, but people are always working and living behind the scenes. And there is nothing more heart-warming than seeing a retweet months later with an ‘I did it!’
Make It Happen
Although the trend started online, your own manifestation journey doesn’t have to begin there (or venture there at all, for that matter). First, think about something that you really want to achieve, whether it be finding your person or starting a business. Next, and most importantly, visualise your goal. Write it down on a sticky note and paste it on your fridge, make it your wallpaper, meditate on it, even shout it out on a busy street. You need to be clear and understand exactly what it is you desire. During this process, you also need to practise self-affirmations too. Remind yourself that you are worthy and deserving of this thing you desire, that it will come to you in time, and that you have purpose. You can practice this for multiple goals at a time, and even if your goal doesn’t come to fruition, it might simply mean that something better is on the way.
