He is a musical phenomenon and has won over hearts all around the globe with his baritone vocal abilities and stunning compositions. Yes. We are talking about none other than the incomparable Mr. John Roger Stephens, professionally known as John Legend.
The recent La La Land cast member is a musician unlike no other, winning multiple awards for his own hits and writing epic songs for the likes of Janet Jackson, Estelle and Fergie to name but only a few.
Born and bred in Springfield, Ohio, in 1978, John is now one of Hollywood’s most in-demand entertainers, boasting a plethora of accolades in acting, singing and songwriting. He has been awarded 10 Grammy Awards in his young career as an artist and remains most humble as he still reaches new heights.
In celebration of his amazing career and personality, we’re taking a look at a few quick facts about the ‘Love Me Now’ hit-maker himself, John Legend:
John began his singing journey, with his church choir, when he was just four years old. He began playing his favourite instrument, the piano, at the age of seven.
Legend was actually quite the academic, being offered scholarships to Morehouse College and Georgetown University, and admission to the renowned Harvard University. However, he ended up attending the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied African American literature.
John and his wife Chrissy recently became parents to little Miss Luna Simone – who is an absolute cutie pie!
The star refers to himself as a dedicated feminist, having publically stated that, “All men should be feminists. If men care about women’s rights the world will be a better place.”
Aside from making music history, he is actively involved in a number of social and charitable endeavours. John regularly supports the Harlem Village Academies, which is an organisation based in New York, that coordinates several charter schools. He has also recently been involved with ‘CLOSErikers’, a campaign that is concerned with building leadership and empowering communities that need help in America.
