The Cut Crease

In the swinging 60’s the big eyeliner trend was born, and with it came the playful cut crease. The resurgence of the cut crease (originated in the 1960’s) in the contemporary make-up world has had make-up lovers going absolutely crazy. Found all over Instagram and Youtube, make-up artists cannot seem to get enough of the trend, reviving the look every now and then by using brighter colour palettes and gorgeous glitter accents.

This technique may look quite intimidating because it requires precise, sharp lines and some eyeshadow shading skills, but it’s not as hard as it may seem. All you need are great brushes, quality pigments and a steady hand. The cut crease is also quite useful for those individuals who have hooded eyelids. This look actually assists in creating an amazing eye shape and opening up the eye – making it appear larger and wider.

If you’re interested in trying the trend, then we’ve got a few tips and tricks for you below:

Soft and Gentle

Here one defines the crease of the eyelid softly, using light neutral eyeshadows and pencils, that offer slightly transitional hues compared to the actual lid colour – without making a blatantly obvious or sharp marking in the crease.

Linear Love

This avant-garde cut crease can be achieved by merely drawing a thick line (or more) within the crease of the lid and viola! There you have it!

Drama Baby!

This technique amplifies the distinct lining in between the crease and the eyelid. Outlining the crease and creating a sharp wing with eyeliner helps create that sharper crease. Remember to make sure that your border is quite precise and sharp, and only apply your preferred lid colour (shimmery or foiled shades look best in this case) below the crease line.

The Double Cut

This eye-catching style requires the opposite of the usual cut crease technique. Here your crease line needs to be made using a light shade. You then precisely define the crease by creating dark bordering lines on your eyelid.
