The latest trend amongst make-up geeks and beauty gurus is something called ‘micro blading’, a term that refers to a type of eyebrow grooming technique that is similar to the embroidery stitching style. What happens is that, much like getting a tattoo, coloured pigment is manually embedded into the skin with a hand-held tool. Hair-like lines are stroked into the brow area to create fuller brows. Unlike tattoos, this technique is only semi-permanent, and touch-ups may only be required after a period of about six months.
This beauty trend isn’t all that ‘new’ though. Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Megan Fox have spoken out about their love for the technique, and the fact that it lasts longer than having to using eyebrow products every single day.
We’ve put together a few tips, on microblading 101, that might help you decide whether or not to try it out.
Preparation and Aftercare
If you are considering undergoing the microblading process, try to read up on the necessary procedures that will need to be followed beforehand. It is important to also do some research on the technician who will be conducting the procedure. Check their licence and public reputation before making an appointment, as microblading is a form of tattooing after all.
It is also important to keep the skin in the eyebrow area clean and do not take any aspirin, alcohol or blood-thinning medication beforehand because this will increase bleeding.
Pain Tolerance
Yes. Bleeding will occur because a sharp object will be penetrating your skin, so do expect some pain. Many have described the microblading procedure as giving a scratch-like sensation. If you have a low tolerance for pain then it is suggested that a topical numbing cream be used on the area beforehand. Ask your doctor what they recommend during your first consultation.
Be Patient
The procedure can take up to two hours. This process requires your doctor to be precise and delicate at the same time. So think about your time management for the day of your appointment – you don’t want to rush something like this.
Results
Microblading is perfect for those who have really sparse brows. It’s also great for defining the brows. Depending on the condition and upkeep of your skin and the lifestyle you lead, pigmentation can last up to six months. This proves that microblading is not just some popular trend that everyone’s randomly trying out. It can actually be an investment that helps you save on beauty products and procedures that offer limited results.
