4 sunny and exotic must-see destinations in Africa

Keen to experience the energy of Mexican shores, but closer to home? The African continent has a variety of fantastic destinations that will offer you a taste of sunny siestas and fiestas alike.

The warm paradise of Mozambique

Mozambique is like a secret beach party that everyone wishes they knew about their entire lives. It is a beautiful hidden gem on the south-eastern coast of Africa – a sun seeker’s dream that has vast amounts of pristine coastline. From diving into its crystal-clear waters to snorkelling alongside dolphins and turtles, this tropical paradise offers a variety of fun adventures for each and every wanderer.

For a more laid-back and chilled experience, the go-to spot for relaxation is Tofo Beach, which is perfect for enjoying the sunshine and amazing diving spots, or listening to the sounds of the waves crashing onto the beach. Whilst enjoying the atmosphere, make sure to try the famous Mozambican rum and raspberry, Tipo Tinto R&R. Mozambique is a cocktail of culture and adventure – whether you are sailing on a traditional dhow, haggling at Maputo’s bustling markets, sipping on something sweet on the beaches
or diving into Bazaruto Archipelago’s sparkling waters – think of this beautiful country as your own private festival on the African Coast.

Adventure awaits in Réunion Island

Picture yourself at a fiesta, but instead of dancing the day away, you’re hiking through lava fields and snorkelling with schools of fish. Something for the avid adventurers, Réunion Island is the adventure playground of the Indian Ocean. The region is revered for its unique blend of volcanic landscapes and stunning beaches.

Ermitage Beach is the ideal spot for amazing snorkelling opportunities due to its shallow waters, so it’s great for everyone to enjoy. Boucan Canot Beach, by contrast, offers a more adventurous experience with its vibrant atmosphere and killer waves.

With its hiking trails and volcanic landscapes, Réunion Island is a nature lovers’ paradise. The island promises a mix of relaxation and excitement – from soaking up the sun and exploring lava fields to catching some waves with loved ones.

Island bliss in Mauritius

Imagine dancing the salsa under the bright stars, the sand between your toes and the whimsical sounds of the ocean. Mauritius is what we consider to be the equivalent of a piña colada – vibrant, refreshing and oh-so-satisfying. The island is known for its stunning sandy beaches, dramatic landscapes, colourful umbrellas, mesmerising temples and diverse cultural heritage.

Mauritius hosts the most beautiful scenic beaches – one of which is Le Morne beach. Its shores are perfect: whether you’re after an afternoon dip, water sports in its turquoise waters or relaxing on the white sandy beach, you’ll satisfy your heart’s desires. For the nature lovers, enjoy the picturesque hiking trails on the majestic mountains of the island. Don’t leave Le Morne without going on an epic adventure of seeing the mesmerising underwater waterfall illusion; this is where the sand and silt create a stunning visual effect that looks like a cascading waterfall under the ocean. Mauritius also hosts lively markets complete with colourful umbrellas, bustling stalls, and mouth- watering cuisine of fresh seafood. Add in the extremely friendly locals and you’ll see why it’s a top pick for a truly unforgettable getaway.

An exotic escape to Zanzibar

Zanzibar is your ticket to an exotic escape with a sprinkle of spicy history. Off the coast of Tanzania, this island has beautiful crystal blue waters, white sandy beaches, magical sunsets and rich history. Zanzibar gives you a Swahili twist to the fiesta that you seek – it’s a beautifully sunny package all wrapped up with its blend of relaxation and exploration.

On this island, you can while away by the beach or visit Stone Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walk through the winding streets of this East African trading town whilst indulging in local street foods at Forodhani Gardens. Once you’ve had your fill of the vibrant markets, stop by the Freddie Mercury Museum.

Another highlight on this vibrant island is The Rock Restaurant, which hosts a unique dining experience. The restaurant offers fresh sea food whilst perched on a rocky outcrop in the ocean. Depending on the tide, you might find yourself travelling there by boat or walking towards it whilst the water crashes at your toes. Regardless of where you end up on this island, you’re sure to enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the locals, while soaking up the sun on the cosy beach.
