Winter may be chilly, but your makeup game doesn’t have to be. These pro tips will ensure your make-up looks dewy and fresh during the colder months.
1. Prep your skin
Don’t expect a flawless make-up look when you don’t take care of your skin first. “If your skin’s dry, your makeup will grab onto every flaky area and settle into fine lines,” says Joseph Carrillo, a makeup artist based in New York City. Don’t forget to exfoliate regularly. Your foundation will appear smoother without those pesky dead skin cells.

2. Use liquid foundation
It’s best to have two different types (and shades) of foundation for summer and winter. Ditch the powder and mousse foundation and stick to liquid foundation (preferably oil-based) during the colder months. “I tend to gravitate towards balmy and nourishing foundation formulas during the winter as they help to diffuse the skin’s texture and provide flattering coverage when skin is most dry,” says celebrity makeup artist Dahlia Warner.

3. Use a damp sponge to blend
Switch out your make-up brushes and use a damp sponge instead to blend your make-up. “It’s better for blending makeup on dry, winter skin because the moisture helps prevent makeup from clinging to dry patches. It ultimately creates a more seamless, natural and dewy finish,” says New York City-based make-up artist Joseph Carrillo.
@justserv_ Here’s how to use your Makeup Sponge Blender Egg⬇️ 1. DAMPEN THE SPONGE: Run the sponge under water and squeeze out any excess moisture until it’s slightly damp. 2. APPLY MAKEUP: Dip the sponge into your liquid or cream makeup product (foundation, concealer, etc.). 3. BLEND: Gently dab and bounce the sponge onto your skin to blend the makeup evenly, using a stippling or bouncing motion. 4. BUILD COVERAGE: Layer the product as needed by applying additional makeup and blending it with the sponge. 5. CLEAN THE SPONGE: After each use, wash the sponge with mild soap and water, squeezing out any makeup residue until it’s clean. Allow it to air dry before next use.
