Edifier X3 review

Edifier has a wide range of true wireless earphones in South Africa, and the entry-level Edifier X3 deliver a far better audio performance far better than it’s humble sub-R1000 price tag would suggest. While there was plenty of detail in the sound, with some delightful bass, what won us over was how well they responded to a wide range of music we used for testing. From hard rock to hip hop, soul and high energy pop these produced a sure-footed performance throughout. No matter the speed and complexity of the music, or the genre, the X3s never looked like missing beat.

Overall the sound signature is on the lively side, and electronic dance music-friendly. The X3 support the aptX protocol for high definition playback over Bluetooth, which actively preserves music quality. Our one reservation is that the case is very flimsy indeed and so compact that we struggled to get the buds out without spilling them. Our technique did improve over time, but the case never felt like it was up to rough treatment riding in a jeans pocket, for example.

A surprisingly powerful music performance make these our best budget buy for true wireless earbuds.

aptX, IPX5 waterproof, CVC8.0 noise-cancelling mics, 24 hours battery (claimed), 50g in case, R1000
