How To Use Purple To Style Your Home

It’s all about purple this season! We give you style tips for making your home glow in this regal shade.

In the living room

Finding the right shade of purple depends on the quality of natural light in the room. For darker rooms, try a shade with red undertones to add warmth.

A deep plum purple in a small living room will create a cocooning effect that envelops the space with warmth. For large rooms filled with light, go bold with cooler blue shades of lilac or dusky mauve.

Candle Care: Before lighting a candle, trim the wick at least half a centimetre. This prevents uneven burning, dripping or flaring.

In the bedroom

When styling a purple bedroom, embrace layers. Pillows, throws, rugs, ottomans and curtains are a few great ways to start!

Once you’ve got the layers you want pinned down, think about contrasting different shades: pairing a light purple pillow with a dark purple blanket over neutral bedding truly celebrates the colour, while bringing out each different layer beautifully.

Colour Play: Purple’s complementary colour is yellow. Although they’re very different from each other, they go together perfectly, resulting in decor that’s eclectic and modern.

In the kitchen

Use purple as an accent colour with accessories such as a food mixer, toaster, tea towels, storage jars or a swathe of lavender backsplash. Alternatively, if you love the colour, go all the way with purple-painted cabinetry and a different shade on the walls.

Be Bold: Create a purple statement wall with paint or wallpaper and leave the other walls in the room neutral. Use tape or stencils to create a geometric pattern or stripes if you want more than just a single colour to make your statement.
