Fashion Trends We Are Ready To Leave Behind

We’re so ready to say farewell to these fashion looks and trends.

Fashion trends come and go. But one thing’s for certain – there are a couple of items or looks that have overstayed their welcome. Whether they’ve been around for ages or are relatively new in the world of fashion, it’s high time these trends retire. While we only name five, we’re sure you could add
a whole lot more to the list!

Tatta transparent lucite
When this trend made waves in the fashion world, it caused a few head scratches. While some jumped at the opportunity to rock the see-through shoe and handbag, others watched from a distance in disbelief. How could we call this fashionable, and how did it end up on several runways? Transparent lucite is a type of see-through plastic that the world has seen enough of.

Sack the saggy pants
We can’t be the only ones who have had enough of pants that look as if it’s five times too big for you. Saggy pants have been around for many years, and somehow this look stuck around. Many people can still be seen strolling in pants that hang far too low. Our verdict: It’s time to send the saggy pants trend back to the 1990s where it came from. Instead, invest in a pair of well-fitted pants or jeans and belt to keep it above the bum.

No to neon
Somewhere in the 2010s, we saw a surge in neon items – from clothing to accessories – making their way into fashion. In some cases, they have stuck around, and we can still see fluorescent pieces in clothing stores today. But don’t let the nostalgia take over – it’s best to resist the urge to buy that neon top or pair of shoes that your younger self would’ve loved. Instead, opt for more toned-down colours or brightly coloured patterns.

Socks and sandals – need we say more?
If there’s one look that we are ecstatic to see less (read none) of, it’s the socks and sandals pairing that, for some odd reason, has become a huge trend. We know, we know! We’re probably hurting some feelings right now, but let’s face it – it’s time to let it go. They say comfort is key and that’s one of the main perks that this weird pairing has. The fact that you can simply slip on your sandals with a warm pair of socks is basically creating the best of both worlds. But alas, let’s throw this trend out the door in 2022, shall we?

Cut it out with cut-out jeans
We’ll admit it: We are a bit sad to see this trend go. But the style gurus’ verdict is in and it’s time to say goodbye to our beloved ripped pants (to the older generation’s relief, we bet). This trend has been around for a while and has taken care of some edgy, grungy and classy styles. Their versatility is most likely what won us over.  But it seems as though the trend has reached its expiration date. So, why not replace your trusty cut-out jean with one that has a bit of a looser fitting, such as a mom jean, wide-leg jean or culottes? They have made a major fashion comeback and can look really flattering if styled right.
