Creating Time For Yourself

Creating time for yourself amidst a busy life can be tricky, yet it’s so essential. Let’s explore how me-time can be crafted from even the simplest routines

Ideas of self-care are not new. Throughout the ages women, and even men, have created rituals to unwind, beautify and even share their relaxation time socially. The challenge is carving out  a routine and having enough commitment to mindfulness to stay on course. You’ve got this, and even more so, you need this! Too often it can feel like it’s just not the day and you’re not the one, but you are. Here’s how you claim it:

1. Set an intention
Your mind is your most powerful tool; it’s where negative thoughts linger and zap the energy out of your day, but more importantly, it’s where good vibes are born too. It’s really all about the wolf you feed, so choose a positive affirmation, short mantra or simply allow calm and happy thoughts to guide a brief routine. Having a go at becoming aware of your breath as you dot and swipe your face is a sure way to pass the vibe check with flying colours.

2. Keep it simple!
Work with what you have. If that is as simple as a hair tie and a 3-step beauty regime, that’s enough to work with and quite a solid start. Try not to think of beauty or self-care as an elaborate plot for the next Miss Congeniality. Waiting for the right moment, space, atmosphere or tool is no a thing, honey!

3. Romanticise your life
What would a slow, unforgettable moment look like in your mind’s perfect inner memory box? Think of every moment as one that helps to craft your life’s algorithm… make it beautiful. Keeping simplicity in mind, it can be as simple as tidying your bathroom and treating yourself to  a lazy Susan to make every step of your routine feel like a relaxing trip to a beauty counter. Or as elaborate as tweaking your vanity with a decor theme you love, to elevate even the simplest routine. Either way, switch off the lights and pop on some fairy lights or a scatter of candles for a date for one. If this is not practical for your daily routine, make a weekly date with yourself and craft a mood you’ll remember until your next me-date.

4. Multi-tasking me
Due for a face mask? Well, it looks like those 15 minutes are free for the next chapter of a book you love, drawing an affirmation card or listening to an interesting podcast with a big mug of hot water and lemon. You know what you like most, so try and enjoy it for a few minutes a few days a week. Block off a chunk of time and do as many satisfying mini tasks as you can manage. Think of it as a beauty TikTok in the making. Dotting  a silky cleanser on day old make-up? That’s the moment to pop on your fluffy slippers, prepare some hot water to soak your feet, and for a calming cup of tea. Are you due for a hair treatment? While you wait, this is the moment to shave your legs or pluck a few hairs. You can do it!
