Grooming Tips From South African Influencers

Being in the public eye means that grooming is essential to your look. We pick the brains of two of SA’s hottest influencers to find out how they stay camera ready.

Arguably SA’s most dapper gent, Menzi Mcunu is always dressed for the occasion and groomed to perfection

What is your morning/night routine?
It’s like a ritual. Something to get me ready to face the day. It’s not just putting on different products and getting out the door fast. It’s a process for me: I select my music, make a cup of tea and then do my face.

Every morning, I use a clay cleanser that helps to fight breakouts. That’s followed by applying a moisturiser with an SPF. It feels super luxurious on my skin and helps to keep me protected from sun damage. I’m attempting to grow out my beard, so I have started using a beard oil with jojoba oil to nourish and condition the hairs, and I love how it feels on my skin too.

What is your grooming maintenance schedule?
I do clinical facials once a month at Smart Laser. I always have The Fire and Ice, also known as The Red-Carpet Facial. It gets my skin glowing, which is great for all the shoots that I do.

Do you wear any make-up?
I’m really open to trying make-up products. I once had a gig from 10 am to 10 pm and a make-up artist gave me a primer from MAC, which I now buy for myself. It helps brighten my complexion.

Joburg-based photographer of the stars Austin Malema has a low-key grooming routine, making minimalism the main attraction.

What is your morning/night routine
I’m a straight-up, no-fuss kind of guy. I would say that my secret is Vaseline – not the fancy moisturiser, the old-school petroleum jelly Vaseline. We were slapped with it since we were babies and I’ve transitioned into adulthood still using it.

What is your top tip for skincare?
I wash my hair and face with water and soap in the shower – that’s about it. I also wear sunblock daily.

What is your preferred scent profile? What are some of your all-time favourite fragrances?
Now you’re talking! This is something that I love and have an opinion on. I prefer a fresh scent but lately I’ve been experimenting with a more woody profile.
