Beauty Trends To Try This Season

it’s a bloomin’ good time to click ‘refresh’ on your signature go-to look! Take a peek at some of the top trends in beauty you may want to try out this season…

Fun New Frenchies
Whether you opt for an at-home mani, or prefer going out to your favourite salon and making a day of it, keeping your nails in tip-top condition is one of the best self-care rituals you could indulge in. Agree? Then, why not try out this latest trend the next time you are having a pamper day? ‘Funky Frenchies’ have been making the rounds on social media, with celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Khloé Kardashian, and Barbie Ferreira showing off their beautifully manicured nails on Instagram. It’s quite a simple trend to jump onto and customise, actually. Get your tips dipped in shiny metallic shades or 3D water droplets, go for a two-toned pastel French tip, play around with some cool new-age illustrations, or take it up a few notches by adding on some embellishments – it’s a cute way to doll up the classic look we’ve all come to know and love.

Go copper
Hair stylists all over the world have chimed in on the debate that coppery reds look good on just about anyone. In previous years we saw the obsession with honey blonde hues, the balayage trend and glossy brunette shades. However, this year there’s been a ginger-ish change up. Celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor and Sydney Sweeney were all involved in popularising this hue for spring, and we have even noticed the hashtag #copperhair trending on Instagram, with more than 1.2 million tags. The muted copper shades pair well with pale, fair skin tones. Golden coppers really brighten and bring warmth to the complexion of all medium skin tones, red coppers are great for olive skin tones, and rich vivid, coppery auburn-reds tend to look amazing on deeper skin tones. And just a tip from our side in terms of hair styles: silky, printed bandanas and claw clips (even the ’90s-inspired butterfly ones) are all the rage right now. So why not give it a whirl?

Natural skin
We seem to be moving away from thick layers of foundation and concealer, and embracing a more lightweight approach to complexion products this spring. There is also definitely more of a focus on clean beauty and the mindful beauty movement right now, which sees beauty lovers zooming in on simplifying their beauty regimens. On the skin, you’ll see more of a shift to the use of skin tints, lightweight foundations, and even tinted moisturisers. It’s all about having radiant skin (not too shiny) with minimal coverage; getting that slightly luminous look, evening out your complexion, but still feeling as though there is barely anything on the skin. This new favouring of a more subdued look comes on the tail of the recent ‘cloud skin’ trend (creating a hazy, soft-focus on the skin as opposed to a wet, glass-like one). However, the natural look is way more toned-down.

Blush crush
From designers like Carolina Herrera to Anna Sui, the Spring/Summer 2022 fashion runways boasted blush accents on the faces of most of its models. This season we should see blush taking centre stage, whether in the form of bright pinks, warm corals or berry shades. We’ll also see a lot of blush ‘draping’ all along the cheekbone area, and up towards the outer corners of the eyes, as a result of the ‘contour blush’ trend (first made popular back in the ’70s). Blush is a great way to bring warmth back to the complexion, especially when you are opting for a full-coverage foundation. It’s also great for sculpting the cheeks and giving the face a pretty flush of colour.

The laminated look
Laminated brows involves a brow treatment trend that focuses on creating shiny, smooth brows. It is often referred to as ‘eyebrow perm’. Many people who happen to experience unruly brow hairs, or brow hair thinning, favour this cool semi-permanent procedure, which involves using a cream and brushing the hairs upward, and ‘sealing’ them to keep them locked in place and uniform. This perm then lasts around four to six weeks. It’s a great option for those brow enthusiasts who’d prefer keeping their brows styled a certain way rather than applying an eyebrow gel every single day. Not keen on the procedure? No worries. Simply use a good brow gel, or brush and lift your brows up for the day using the soap brow method.

Colour pop
Now is definitely not the time to skimp on colour. Colour-blocking was a thing in fashion not so long ago, and now colour coordination and monochromatic looks are becoming trendy in the beauty world. Matching your eyeshadow to your outfit will have you turning heads. Pinks, peri hues, and even neon shades are taking the limelight on the lids, with many celebrities jumping onto the trend. It’s all about playing with colour pigments and even those glittery shades too. And you don’t just need to go the eyeshadow route – find a kohl liner for the bottom waterline and place some bright hues down there. You could even smudge it out a bit and create a ‘lived-in liner’ look (creating an edgy vibe).
