Celebrities Reveal Their Secrets for Perfect Skin

Skincare is a tricky and very volatile business. These A-list stars are here to help us achieve celeb-level skincare fit for a red-carpet appearance.

Guest appearances, awards shows and red-carpet events are a given for Hollywood’s elite. And they must make sure their skin is always in tip-top shape. Luckily, all those years of sitting in make-up chairs has given them free access to beauty hacks from professional make-up artists. From Priyanka’s home-made face mask recipe to Pharrell Williams’s simple anti-ageing secret, here are some of our favourite beauty and grooming tips from top celebrities.

Priyanka Chopra’s home-made face mask for brighter skin

Despite having access to a plethora of luxe treatments, Indian actress Priyanka Chopra attributes her glowing skin to family recipes that have been handed down to her through the generations. “Mix equal parts of yoghurt and oats (about 1–2 tablespoons each) with turmeric powder (about 1–2 teaspoons). Apply the mask and leave for half an hour before washing off with lukewarm water,” she advises. Natural yoghurt has been found to help the skin retain moisture and appear brighter, while turmeric has potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Gigi Hadid’s top tip for super plump lips

Want to know how top model Gigi Hadid achieves her soft kissable lips? Simple. Just a little lip balm. The trick with this, however, is to apply a coat of it to your lip before applying makeup to the rest of your face. When it’s time to adorn your lips they’re plump and hydrated, providing a perfectly smooth canvas for your lip colour.

Zac Efron’s advice for bed-head hair

Some celebrities rely on an excessive amount of product to make them look good. Zac Efron, on the other hand, admits that his grooming hack is derived from a lack of effort. Known for his thick mop of hair, the actor says, “If you really want your hair to look good, just don’t wash it for a day. That’s my secret.” And he’s right: shampooing your hair daily (especially with piping-hot water) strips your hair of natural oils and can cause your sebaceous glands to overcompensate by producing excess oil.

Dua Lipa’s lip-exfoliating toothbrush hack

British singer Dua Lipa recommends keeping a spare toothbrush in your bag for buffing off dead skin cells from your lips. Exfoliating your lips will keep good blood circulation, prevent chapped lips and your lips won’t look dull or discoloured. But Dua’s toothbrush hack doesn’t just work for lips. If you don’t have an eyebrow spoolie on hand, a toothbrush comes in handy.

Pharrell Williams’s anti-ageing advice

Pharrell Williams’s ageless face has caused people across the world to ponder how he’s managed to never look a day older – the topic has even sparked vampire conspiracy theories and resulted in countless memes. The hitmaker, designer and producer, who turned 50 this year (but doesn’t look a day over 25), credits his poreless visage to queen of the catwalk, Naomi Campbell, who told him to always wash his face with cold water, and to use upward strokes – as opposed to downward – when using a face cloth on his face.

Halle Berry’s hero product for dewy skin

Some celebrities forgo expensive brands for natural products to achieve a glowing complexion. For Halle Berry, a fresh spritzing of antioxidant-rich rosewater to her face before applying make-up is the hail mary.  “No matter what age you are, you always look a little better when your skin is a little dewy, not too powdery. I went through phases where all I wanted to do was be matte and powdered up, but then I found it wasn’t the best look for me,” she told InStyle magazine.
