CSA lauds dominant Proteas

Cricket South Africa has congratulated the Proteas on their dominant 2-0 series win over the West Indies in the Test series which finished in St Lucia on Monday.

The Proteas clinched the series with a 158-run victory and more than a day and a session to spare in the second five-day match, which concluded at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground following their victory by an innings and 63 runs in the first match at the same venue.

“What a great start to the Dean Elgar era!” commented CSA acting chief executive Pholetsi Moseki.

“It is an outcome that augurs extremely well for the future and is a good starting point in getting the Proteas back where they belong in the upper regions of the ICC Test match rankings.

“It was a good team effort with significant contributions all the way through the playing XI. It was good to see the senior players taking the lead both with bat and ball. Particular congratulations go to Man of the Series Quinton de Kock and we had several other strong candidates for this honour from our world-class bowling attack as well.

“Special mention must be made of Keshav Maharaj’s achievement of providing the 46th instance of a hat-trick in the history of Test match cricket.

“The Proteas have been well served by its Test captains over the past 30 years and Dean has made a good start to continuing that tradition. Congratulations to him, head coach Mark Boucher and all the players and support staff,” concluded Moseki.
